What format should I use for my exercise videos?

The perfect format for exercise videos.

On Gymkee you'll find 400+ exercises filmed in 4K at the gym, featuring both equipment-based and bodyweight movements.

Despite our best efforts to keep expanding our exercise video library, you might want to add your own exercises at some point.

You can do this easily without needing any external platform.

To give your clients the best possible experience, here's the format to follow when filming and uploading your videos to Gymkee:

  • Landscape Format

The vertical format isn't optimized because you'll have 2 black bars on the sides. When recording your videos, make sure to film in horizontal format.

  • Maximum 30 seconds for simple exercise videos

When adding an exercise demo, 3 reps of the movement or 30 seconds is more than enough.

Videos are automatically looped on Gymkee so your clients can always see the movement execution.

Keeping videos short makes them lighter, so your clients' workouts will load faster.

  • Avoid the .mov format

Generally when you record in .mov format (iPhone format), your videos are more likely to get corrupted and not play correctly in our player, which can cause import errors.

  • Good lighting

To give your clients the best experience, make sure your movements are clearly visible. Good lighting = better video quality.

  • Mute your video

If these are just exercise demos, you don't need audio in your videos.

Your clients will usually do their workouts with music playing anyway.

  • Use a tripod for your phone or camera

To keep the camera steady, we recommend using a tripod for better video quality.

There you go! Now you know how to properly add your own exercise videos directly on Gymkee to create your training programs.

You'll also be able to add alternative exercises in case your clients run into issues (machine unavailable, out of order, etc.). Check out this article to learn how:
